A Última Batalha de Juwan Howard Nunca Seria um Carretel de Melhores Momentos
No More Boards, No More Bounce
Michigan basketball, man. What a fall. This program used to be synonymous with guys who could fly, who could put on a show. Remember Trey Burke crossing dudes and hitting those clutch threes? Or Mitch McGary, just a wrecking ball on the offensive glass? Now? It's like watching paint dry. The athleticism just isn't there, and that's the biggest problem for a highlight guy like me.
Their last season under Juwan Howard was a total bust, finishing 8-24 overall, 3-17 in Big Ten play. That's a new program record for losses, by the way. Think about that: a program with Michigan's history, setting records for futility. Where are the dunks? Where are the chase-down blocks? I'm not seeing 'em.
The Transfer Portal Giveth, and Taketh Away
This team needed a jolt, needed some serious bounce, and new head coach Dusty May is trying to bring it. He’s already hit the transfer portal hard, pulling in Vlad Goldin from FAU. Goldin's a solid 7-footer, averaged 15.7 points and 6.9 rebounds last year for May. He can score, but let's be real, he's not exactly going to be tearing down the rim with thunderous jams. It's a different kind of game.
And that's the thing. They lost Terrance Williams II to the portal, a guy who actually brought some physicality. Dug McDaniel, their leading scorer at 16.3 points per game, is gone too. To really turn this thing around and get back to being a highlight factory, May needs to find some serious athletes. He needs guys who can elevate, who make you rewind the play.
Finding the Wow Factor Again
Look, the Big Ten is getting more athletic every year. You got guys at Purdue and Wisconsin who are beasts, but they're not necessarily highlight reel regulars. To truly contend, Michigan needs to find its identity again, and for me, that means getting back to dynamic playmakers. Getting Roddy Gayle Jr., a guard from Ohio State who averaged 13.5 points, is a good start. He’s got some flashes, some quickness.
But they need more. They need that one guy who makes you gasp, who makes you jump off the couch. The kind of player who can change the energy of a building with one single play. If May can pull a true difference-maker, a high-flyer, out of the portal or get one to commit, that's when I'll start paying real attention.
Prediction: Dusty May lands at least one legit top-20 transfer portal athlete who can actually jump out of the gym, and Michigan makes a surprising run to the NCAA Tournament next season.
