The Wembanyama Showdown That Bulls Fans Wish They Could Forget

Look, if you missed the Spurs-Bulls game on Friday night, you missed a clinic. Specifically, a Victor Wembanyama clinic, and it wasn't pretty for Chicago. Wemby dropped a ridiculous 21 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks. That's a 20-20 game, with a side of highlights that'll be on repeat all week. He was everywhere, swatting shots, finishing over multiple defenders, and generally making the Bulls look like they were playing against a cheat code.

Thing is, the Bulls got absolutely punked at home, losing 114-105. DeMar DeRozan did his thing with 28 points, but it felt like he was playing against an alien. Zach LaVine, who just returned from injury, managed 10 points on 4-for-16 shooting. That's a rough night, even with the rust. And the highlights? Almost all on the Spurs' side, with Wemby putting on a full-court show that had the United Center buzzing, even if it was for the wrong team.

Bulls' Highlight Reel: Where Was It?

Real talk: I was sifting through the footage, and Chicago's highlight reel from this game is pretty thin. Nikola Vucevic had a nice put-back dunk early, but that's about it. The Spurs, on the other hand, had Wemby’s ridiculous one-handed alley-oop finish off a Keldon Johnson pass, which looked like something out of a video game. Then there was his block on Alex Caruso that sent the ball into the stands – pure athleticism. It felt like the Bulls were constantly reacting, not dictating. They shot 37.6% from the field as a team, and that's just not going to cut it against anyone, let alone a generational talent like Wembanyama.

And that’s the problem. You come to dunk1.net for the plays that make you rewind the tape, the moments that make your jaw drop. The Bulls, outside of a few isolated plays, just didn't deliver against the Spurs. Patrick Williams had a couple of good defensive possessions, but he wasn't creating any "SportsCenter Top 10" moments. When your opponent’s rookie is leading the league in blocks and pulling off circus shots, and your own stars are struggling to get clean looks, you know you’re in trouble.

I'm telling you, by the end of this season, Wembanyama is going to have at least five poster dunks that are already etched into NBA lore. And the Bulls will be on the wrong side of a few of them if they don't find a way to contain him.
