Les Kings ont gâché un match qu'ils auraient absolument dû gagner, et c'était quand même amusant à regarder
Sloppy Seconds, Highlight Reels First
You ever watch a game and just know, deep down, it’s going to be a highlight factory, regardless of the final score? That was Hornets vs. Kings on Monday night. Sacramento coughed up a 19-point lead to the Charlotte Hornets, eventually losing 118-111. Yeah, the Kings blew it, plain and simple. But man, there was some serious athletic juice flowing on both ends.
De'Aaron Fox did what De'Aaron Fox does: speed, rim attacks, and some ridiculous finishes. He dropped 31 points and dished out 8 assists. You watch him drive and it's like he's playing on fast forward while everyone else is on normal speed. But even his explosiveness wasn't enough to save the Kings from their fourth-quarter collapse.
Young Talent Flexing
Miles Bridges had himself a night. He went for 33 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, and he did it with authority. There was one sequence in the third quarter where he just elevated over Domantas Sabonis for an easy two. That's the kind of play that gets replayed in slo-mo for days. Bridges is a walking poster, and he proved it again. He’s got that bounce. And LaMelo Ball, even with a quieter 17 points and 6 assists, still finds ways to make you say "how'd he see that?" with his passing.
The Kings had Kevin Huerter knocking down 3-pointers, finishing with 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting from deep. Malik Monk had 21 points off the bench, including some tough buckets in traffic. But the Hornets just kept coming. They shot 51.2% from the field as a team. That's efficient offense, even if the Kings’ defense made it look a bit too easy at times.
The Ugly Truth: Kings Need Defense
Here’s the thing: you can't be a contender when you let teams shoot over 50% and outscore you 35-18 in the final frame, especially at home. Sacramento's defense was porous. They gave up too many easy looks, too many second-chance points. Sabonis had a double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, but he couldn't anchor the defense effectively when Charlotte was getting into the paint at will. The Kings are 21st in defensive rating this season, and nights like this show why.
But hey, the dunks were sick. The fast breaks were electric. If you ignore the outcome and just watch the highlight package, it was a fantastic game. My take? The Kings are all flash and no substance right now. They're fun, but they're not winning anything meaningful with defense like that.
Bold prediction: The Kings will finish as a play-in team, but won't make the actual playoffs.
