Look, the Mavericks went into Denver and snagged a win, 107-105, which is big for them. You gotta give it up for Luka Doncic, who dropped 30 points, 10 boards, and 11 assists. That dude is a walking triple-double, and he makes some passes you just don't see anywhere else. His step-back threes are box office every single time.

But let's be real, even with the win, Nikola Jokic still had his way. The Joker put up 37 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists. That's another triple-double for him, his 13th of the season. He hit clutch shots, made ridiculous passes from the post, and basically ran the entire Nuggets offense. It’s wild how he always seems to get his numbers against Dallas, regardless of the final score. He just dissects defenses.

The Aerial Attack Dallas Misses

Thing is, when I’m clipping highlights, what I’m often looking for is that pure athleticism, that explosive play. Denver has that in guys like Aaron Gordon, who had a couple of nasty dunks over Dereck Lively II. Gordon finished with 11 points and 7 rebounds, but his impact on the highlight reel is usually way bigger than his stat line suggests. He just flies through the air. You don't see that from the Mavs outside of maybe a Dereck Lively II alley-oop or a P.J. Washington fast break finish.

Dallas needs more than Luka's wizardry. Kyrie Irving, who had 18 points, still pulls off some incredible handles and finishes, but it’s more finesse than raw power. The Mavs are a jumpshooting team, and while those can win games, they don't always create the eye-popping moments that get people out of their seats. They got 42 points from their bench, which included Tim Hardaway Jr. hitting a couple of crucial threes, but again, it's just not the same.

Jokic's Unconventional Dominance

Here's the thing: Jokic isn't a high-flyer. He's not going to throw down a thunderous dunk from the free-throw line. But his highlights are still mesmerizing. The way he manipulates defenders, the no-look passes, the fadeaway hooks – it’s a different kind of spectacle. He had a sequence where he faked out Daniel Gafford for an easy layup that was just poetry in motion. He makes the impossible look routine, and that’s a highlight in itself.

For Dallas to consistently beat Denver, they need to figure out how to stop Jokic, or at least slow him down enough that his triple-double isn't also a game-winner. Maxi Kleber and Daniel Gafford just didn't have an answer for him down low. The Mavs got the win, but they're still searching for a consistent way to deal with the MVP. They won this game, but it felt more like Denver just ran out of time than Dallas completely shutting them down.

I'm telling you, until Dallas finds a real counter for Jokic, those Denver highlights will keep coming. My hot take? Jokic still owns this matchup, even when Dallas snags a win. And the next time these two play, Jokic drops 40 and a quadruple-double.
